Saint Maud sees an opening in the theatrical movie release date and will take advantage of it.
After the announcement from Warner Bros. to push back Tenet to late July, A24 moved their chess piece by having its horror movie Saint Maud to be released on July 17 in its place.
Many of the independent and lower budget films are taking advantage of the pandemic situation by pivoting their release dates around significant blockbusters. Independent theaters are opening this month across the nation, with major chains set to open in July.
Despite national movie theaters being back in business, film releases are slim pickings at the moment. Unhinged, starring Russell Crowe, will be the first major release in theaters on July 10.
As for Saint Maud, it is a chilling tale about the original vision of faith, madness, and salvation in a fallen world. Maud, a newly devout hospice nurse, becomes obsessed with saving her dying patient’s soul—but sinister forces, and her sinful past, threaten to put an end to her holy calling.
The movie stars Morfydd Clark (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Crawl), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, A Quiet Passion), Lilly Frazer (Ladhood), Lily Knight (Their Finest), Marcus Hutton (Made in Dagenham), Turlough Convery (Ready Player One), and Rosie Sansom (Episodes). It marks the directorial for Rose Glass.

Initially slated for a spring release, the Covid-19 pandemic shifted the release date for this film. By taking the July 17 spot, there will be some movie choices for movie-going audiences daring to venture to their local theaters during a current pandemic.
After viewing the trailer myself, it has that horror vibe of The Witch and Midsommer–slow burn scary films. I’m willing to leave my house to check out this film.
