Sam Raimi No Longer Helming Kingkiller Chronicle Movie

Some projects thrive. Some projects die. Such is the way in Hollywood. The business options so many novel series out there and so few actually make it through the door it’s almost a complete miracle when something DOES work out. It also doesn’t help that many properties being optioned tend to be of the more ambitious stories — stories that apparently warrant being told on two different mediums.

In this case, I’m talking about Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicle novel series that starts with The Name of the Wind. Not only is this world getting adapted into a Showtime series from Lin-Manuel Miranda, but this past January, it was announced that Sam Raimi would be helming the first film in the cinematic adaptation of the property.

Unfortunately, it looks like these films have hit a roadblock, as reports. According to the outlet, one of their sources has stated Raimi is no longer attached to the project. What this means for the project going forward is a complete unknown. We sadly have no idea how long he’s been away from the film or if Lionsgate is any nearer to replacing him.

Rest easy knowing that, as of right now, the previously-mentioned show, which will have The Librarians’ John Rogers serving as showrunner, is currently still underway.
