Mixed martial arts are the top hand-to-hand sport to watch in this century’s audience. In the octagonal ring, fighters of different styles come face-to-face in matches that could leave losers permanently crippled due to the dangers.

The inspirational mixed martial arts action film, Born a Champion, follows an up-and-coming martial artist who balances his life between family and might inside the ring.

Sean Patrick Flanery starred and wrote the story with Alex Ranarivelo as an homage to the jujitsu he personally trained with in real life. Also, Katrina Bowden and Dennis Quaid star in the film.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Dennis Quaid and Sean Patrick Flanery headline this powerful martial arts action film about the love for family and the drive for greatness. After a blood-soaked jujitsu match in Dubai, fighting legend Mickey Kelley falls to superstar Blaine. But years later, an online video proves that Blaine cheated, and the world demands a rematch. Can the aging underdog get back into shape in time to vanquish his foe, get revenge, and claim his prize?

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with actors Sean Patrick Flanery and Katrina Bowden for the film. We talked about the balancing act of martial arts jujitsu and the romance storylines for the movie.

Sean Patrick Flannery started his career with a string of national commercials. Then he landed the title role in George Lucas’ The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles after shooting two films for the Mickey Mouse Club called Just Perfect and My Life As A Babysitter. Ever since then, he worked in numerous films and television, including Powder, The Dead Zone, Saw3D, Suicide Kings, and the cult hit The Boondock Saints.

Katrina Bowden scored her first acting role in ABC’s One Life to Live in 2006 with a two-episode arc as Britney. She guest-starred in television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Ugly Betty. Her biggest breakthrough role came when she became a recurring character, Cherie, in 30 Rock. In 2008, she made her film debut in the comedy Sex Drive and starred in the cult horror hit Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Later, she appeared in Piranha 3DD, Hold Your Breath, and Nurse 3D.

Born a Champion is in select theaters, on digital, and On Demand starting tomorrow. Also, the film is available on Blu-ray and DVD on January 26.
