She-Hulk Season 2 Not Completely Dead Yet But Budget Would Need Lowered | Barside Buzz

The latest Barside Buzz is that She-Hulk Season 2 isn't completely dead yet, however the budget would need to be lowered dramatically.

The latest Barside Buzz is that She-Hulk Season 2 isn’t completely dead yet, however the budget would need to be lowered dramatically. This of course comes on the heels of some comments made by the star of She-Hulk Tatiana Maslany. As covered in the related section below Maslany said she didn’t think Season 2 would happen due to budget constraints.

Given how effects heavy She-Hulk was, it just doesn’t fit the current trend. Disney are trying to make lower budgeted shows which are more sustainable in the TV realm. It is reported that She-Hulk and Secret Invasion both cost north of $200M to make. That’s movie level budget with no box office, and it is unsustainable.

Now i09 has come out to share what they have heard from their sources inside Marvel. This was following no official response to information requests sent directly to Disney.

“io9’s understanding of the situation, according to a source, is that Maslany’s comments are basically accurate, just lacking some context. That context is when CEO Bob Iger returned to Disney and changed much of Marvel’s direction, everything was re-evaluated. We see some of that fallout in the handling of Daredevil: Born AgainCaptain America: New World Order, and the upcoming Avengers movies. So while Marvel works everything out, it’s not that a second season of She-Hulk has been completely abandoned. It just seems less likely than not at the moment. Which, yes, is in part due to its massive budget. Even if the second season did happen though, there would have to be major changes in terms of the visual effects, making the show more cost-effective.”

As you can see, it seems if She-Hulk is to return as a series, it would need to be changed dramatically. There are ways to pull this off cheaply. One would be to have Maslany appear more as Jen and not hulked out. Have her representing other heroes and only Hulking out for the odd action heavy piece. Another way to dramatically reduce budget is to make She-Hulk Season 2 animated. This would be my choice. However, I think that’s because I really don’t like how She-Hulk fits tonally with the other live-action shows and movies.

For animated to work though they’d need to negotiate with Maslany. Maslany would want live-action appearances elsewhere or it turns into just a voice role. Don’t get me wrong, I’d take the cancellation and wouldn’t bat an eyelid as She-Hulk just isn’t for me and never has been. However, I’m sure the fans out there of the show would prefer it continued in another way.

What do you think of the rumor that She-Hulk Season 2 isn’t completely dead yet, however the budget would need to be lowered? Thoughts below as always.
