It is with much sorrow that I report the passing of Sid Haig. The actor best known for his portrayal of Captain Spaulding in horror auteur Rob Zombie’s trilogy of corpses films death was reported on Instagram by his wife Susan L. Oberg. With the post was a message from the recently widowed Oberg stating “He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us.” Haig led a life of a prolific actor in Hollywood with more than 350 television appearances. In addition, he appeared in over 70 movies.

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, my light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next. He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be. He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us. We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected. Sidney Eddie Mosesian 7/14/39 – 9/21/19 Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend. Sid Haig had recently completed filming for Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell where he reprises his role as the humorous and sadistic Captain Spaulding. Haig truly inhabited the role of the off-putting fried chicken eating murdering clown. Director Rob Zombie took to his own Instagram and expressed his own view in the wake of Haig’s death stating “On this sad day you got to remember the good times.” Indeed.

On this sad day you got to remember the good times. This photo was taken the first time me and Sid got together. It was early 2000 or perhaps even late 1999. It was at the Edith Head Costume building at Universal Studios. We were both having a good laugh at this crummy, ill-fitting clown suit. It took a few tries to get his look right, but we got there. Who knew that crazy clown would become an iconic horror figure? Certainly not the two guys in the picture. #CaptainSpaulding #sidhaig #houseof1000corpses

Fans wanting to see Haig should pick up a copy of Zombie’s 3 From Hell when it releases October 15 on DVD and VOD.  The film did also receive a limited theatrical run via Fathom Events which saw the kooky Firefly family on the loose to once again cause mayhem. I for one will be picking up a copy of 3 From Hell. Haig was a standout in that film. NECA even produced figures for him in their Cult Classic Hall of Fame lineup.
