A little late due to New Year, but here is my Skeleton Crew Episode 6 review and to be honest this one was a bit average for my tastes. As always I’ll be keeping SPOILER FREE on this one folks, so not getting into the weeds on story.
I was a little critical of Episode 5 for having such an abrupt end. I said this feels like one story across two episodes. Well, I was kinda right and kinda wrong on that. Things do pick up exactly where we left off. I got that right. However, I feel thematically, Episode 6 felt more filler to me than 5 and not really all that connected.
Episode 6 is more of a character development for the kids, specifically KB. Don’t get me wrong it was decent enough for a kids show. The kids split up and KB has some issues needing sorted.
Meanwhile, Jod we see almost nothing of until a certain point, then not again till the closing scene. I don’t really have any major issues with that. However, Jod is simply a more interesting character, as is SM-33, so when they don’t get much screentime, I’m not sure the kids are compelling enough on their own at times.
Ultimately I enjoyed the episode enough, but I also feel like not much actually happened.

There is a surprise at the latter part of Episode 6. It’s not major, but if you don’t want it spelled out in big kiddy letters do not watch the recap for Episode 6. I actually was annoyed that they telegraphed a certain moment so much by knowingly showing previous references only as part of the recap. I know it’s a kids show, but kids are not stupid and they can remember what happened in previous weeks. I felt insulted that I’m being set up like a toddler for events to come.
Look, I like the kids, but when they are alone on screen, the dialogue just is not Goonies level for me. The show simply works better with Jod and SM-33 also in sharp focus. My favourite part of Episode 6 was a Jod scene, but he wasn’t around much. Therefore, I still think this could have been shortened and added to Episode 5 to make one very good episode.
GRADE: B
Okay, nothing special, one or two good scenes and funny moments. However it felt like the dull half of a two-parter episode.
