There are hundreds of home invasion thrillers that always involve criminals or murderers breaking into homes with a person or families stuck inside fighting for their survival. A few like The Strangers and When a Stranger Calls stand out from the pack with their creative action sequences. In order to differentiate from others, Mike Flanagan’s Hush made its mark with the protagonist being deaf.

In See For Me, this home invasion thriller focuses on a blind young woman cat sitting in a large mansion in the remote woods. Burglars break into the house to crack a safe, she relies on the help of a phone app and a customer service rep to assist in her escape.

Here’s the official synopsis for See For Me:

Sophie, a young blind woman, house-sitting at a secluded mansion, finds herself under invasion by thieves seeking a hidden safe. Her only means of defense, a new app called “See For Me.” It connects her to a volunteer across the country, who helps her survive by seeing on her behalf. Sophie is connected to Kelly, an army veteran who spends her days playing first person shooter games. Sophie is forced to learn that if she’s going to survive the night, she’ll need all the help she can get. A blind teenage girl who ends up being not so powerless after all.

The film stars Skyler Davenport, Kim Coates, Laura Vandervoort, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Pascal Langdale, Joe Pingue, and George Tchortov. Randall Okita directed the movie from a script written by Adam Yorke and Tommy Gushue.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with Skyler Davenport and director Randall Okita. We talked about being blind, the house, and whether there’s an actual app.

Skyler Davenport is a visually impaired actor on the spectrum. (Born as Kathrine Davenport, Skyler identifies as non-binary and changed their legal name after having ‘top surgery.’ Skyler suffered neurological vision loss due to hemiplegic migraines caused by genetic mutation. Skyler has a long list of voiceovers for video games and cartoons, including Final Fantasy, and Pokemon.

Randall Okita is an artist and filmmaker known for rich visual language and innovative approaches to storytelling. His previous work included the virtual reality experience The Book of Distance, which was showcased at Sundance, Venice and Tribeca film festivals. His showing A Place Between was a solo exhibition of artwork at the Prince Takamado Gallery in Tokyo.

See For Me is now playing at the Tribeca Film Festival 2021.
