In this past episode of The Bad Batch on Disney+ we were reintroduced to a fan-favorite Captain Rex. With Clone Force 99 trying to keep a low profile while working as mercenaries it was their interaction with Rafa and Trace Martez that led Rex to find the rogue clones. While most of the season has been revolved around the mystery of Omega this episode focused on a mystery that goes back to The Clone Wars. How did other Clone Troopers besides Rex have their inhibitor chips removed?

When Captain Rex first appeared on Rebels it became a mystery how Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor knew about their inhibitor chip but also how they removed them. This became a little clearer during the series finale of The Clone Wars when Ahsoka was able to remove Rex’s inhibitor chip but still left it unclear how Wolffe and Gregor didn’t follow through with Order 66 and remove their chip. Thanks to Omega and Tech the crew of Clone Force 99 are able to understand why the sudden change in the clones but they didn’t do anything about their own chips until Rex shows up.
In the episode “Battle Scars” we now know that Rex was on the search for rogue clones after Order 66. With Rex’s help, Clone Force 99 are able to remove their inhibitor chips and be free from the control of the Empire. This gives more clarity in Star Wars Rebels when Rex tells Kanan that his inhibitor chip has been removed along with Gregor and Wolffe’s. This is just another great example of how Dave Filoni continues to connect the Star Wars storyline together. For a casual Star Wars fan, this may not seem like a big deal. But for a fan like me, that watches everything Star Wars this weeks episode made the Star Wars story that much better.
