Today is the release of the all-new feature film from Disney+, Sneakerella. This is a new modern look at the classic fairy tale that we all know very well, Cinderella. It’s true that this story has been told and re-told over and over again. In this version, the featured characters have a passion for all things sneakers. From the exclusive releases all the way to the design of trend-setting shoes. This is the foundation for turning Cinderella into the modern-day Sneakerella.

Yesterday we focused on El, played by Chosen Jacobs. He has a passion for designing sneakers but is held back by his stepfather and stepbrothers. As well as a lack of self-confidence in his craft, despite his obvious talent. Today we introduce you to Kira King, played by Lexi Underwood. She is the daughter of a beloved former basketball who now runs a successful sneaker company. Despite being very independent and confident in herself, she struggles with finding her place in her family’s growing legacy. But when she meets El, there is an obvious magical spark that has her ready to take charge and help her family develop the next sneaker craze.

With the release of Sneakerella, LRM Online‘s Emmanuel Gomez spoke with Lexi Underwood. She shares with us her thoughts on the modern version of Cinderella. As well as how she feels about her “prince charming” role reversal. Underwood also comments on the pressure on Kira to live up to her family’s name. Here is the synopsis for Sneakerella

“Sneakerella” is set in the vibrant street-sneaker subculture of New York City. It introduces El (Jacobs), an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens. He works as a stock boy in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother. El hides his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers who constantly stomp on any opportunity that comes his way.

When El meets Kira King (Underwood), the fiercely independent daughter of legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King (Salley), sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers. With a little nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic, El finds the courage to use his talent to pursue his dream of becoming a ‘legit’ sneaker designer in the industry.

The Disney+ original movie Sneakerella premieres on Friday, May 13th only on Disney+.
