So, A REAL Lightsaber Has Actually Been Made?!

There’s no way I was the only kid growing up that was super disappointed to learn that the lightsabers in Star Wars weren’t real. I mean, of course, the toys in the store weren’t actually real, but some small part of my child self had hoped that the actors on set were actually using the real deal. It didn’t take long before my hopes were dashed…

But, at some point in the future, we’d actually be able to do it, right? We may not have Kyber crystals, but we could have the tech to actually make incredibly dangerous laser swords, right (by the way, I’m sticking by that term laser sword)?

Well, one ingenious weaponsmith (the Hacksmith on YouTube) has done just that. Check it out down below!

As outlined in the video, in order to be possible, the power of a bolt of lightning would be needed to power an actual lightsaber. The alternative? A protosaber, which essentially means an attachable power pack that helps fuel the thing — because fueling it all in the handle of a thing is crazy impossible right now.

The only downside? It’s not a fully “real” lightsaber just yet. It still has a big rod that comes out of the handle — so you can kiss your dreams about seeing a lightsaber actually push out goodbye. Regardless, it’s a massive achievement, and my child self would have defecated himself.
