The Obi-Wan Kenobi Show Will Begin Production Next Month — SORT OF! | LRM Top Shelf Rumor

Obi-Wan Kenobi To Premiere In May Rumor | Barside Buzz

Is the Obi-Wan Kenobi show starting production starting next week?

Late last week, the outlet Making Star Wars published a report that raised some eyebrows. Before that hit, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was expected to begin production in January of next year. However, the report claimed that next month (in September) would be when the Obi-Wan Kenobi series actually starts things up. More specifically, they would start filming in Southern California in the train yard where The Mandalorian filmed its exterior shots.

The piece then went on to speculate that this could mean they set things up in September for an October shoot. They also weren’t sure how much they’d be filming. I’m here to help clarify some of that and give a bit more detail to the whole thing.

According to one of our sources, there will indeed be filming at the end of September, but that it will be nothing major. As it stands, the main cast will be brought in for the main production in 2021. But this brings up one other main question: where will this thing mostly shoot? As we know, The Mandalorian survived in Los Angeles. This is stark contrast to many other Star Wars shoots in recent years, including the Cassian Andor series, which is nearing production. Many of those were shot (or will shoot) in Pinewood Studios in the U.K.

So, will we see anything from Obi-Wan at Pinewood? Well, if we will, I don’t think it’ll be this year. My sources there have indicated that there really isn’t much rumbling about Obi-Wan. As far as Star Wars goes, the Cassian Andor series is all they’re getting at Pinewood, and that the Obi-Wan show will be done wholly in the U.S. And if it is getting shot at Pinewood, “it’s the best-kept secret ever.”

Now, that’s not to say production in Pinewood is impossible. While I trust my sources, the reality is that any one source is seeing one small piece of the bigger puzzle. What I will say is that any Pinewood production for Obi-Wan definitely wouldn’t take place this year, as there would have been rumblings among the crew. But as far as January 2021 goes? That’s possible, though I’d say relatively unlikely.

All in all, the minimal Obi-Wan Kenobi show stuff happening next month won’t mosey on over to the U.K. any time soon.
