Get ready to be overwhelmed with information and promotions for the upcoming Han Solo Anthology film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, as we are now under two weeks from the film’s release. Promoting the film while speaking at a press conference over the weekend, father and son duo Lawrence and Jon Kasdan spoke of their love for the Han Solo.

Lawrence Kasdan:

“From the moment I was relatively young and I first saw Han Solo in the cantina, I immediately sparked to him. He lifted up the whole movie for me. This is the kind of character I have loved always […] This is a character who is reckless, cynical, doesn’t trust anybody. [Han] is a little bit stupid, I love that [laughs]. He does things he shouldn’t do, and gets in over his head. You can see that in the brilliance of George Lucas’ cantina scene.

The elder Kasdan is credited with writing two of the best films ever made in my opinion, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back.

Jon Kasdan:

“I think he wanted me to write it with him because I am all that [Han’s traits]. He got pulled into [The] Force Awakens and when he came out, he said, ‘I need somebody to do this with me’ and I was sort of the obvious choice for the above reasons.”

Lawrence Kasdan, of course, has a special connection with the character of Han Solo, being involved with the franchises original trilogy and helping to mold the character. It appears his son, Jon, has a similar relationship.

The early word is while the film isn’t perfect, the characters are treated well and the movie as a whole is a lot of fun, and comes with a few surprises. It also isn’t surprising that the lucky folks that have seen the movie say Donald Glover steals the show as Lando Calrissian.

Do you think the Kasdans were the right people to bring fans a Han Solo film? Let us know in the comments down below!
