Solo: A Star Wars Story – Tom Hanks Almost Appeared As A Stormtrooper In The Film

First it was Daniel Craig as a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with the The Last Jedi came Tom Hardy’s turn in an uncredited role, again as a Stormtrooper. An now it seems as if another famous celebrity wanted to continue the tradition. During an interview with Empire, Solo: A Star Wars Story director, Ron Howard, mentioned that Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks expressed interest in having a cameo in the film.

“Tom Hanks wanted to be a stormtrooper, but I couldn’t get him. He wasn’t available. That would have been great. I don’t even know if he really meant it, but he said that he’d love to come and be a stormtrooper but it didn’t quite ever happen. Maybe next time.”

So this has sort of become a thing with the new Star Wars films, and I hope it continues. Huge bummer that the timing couldn’t line up for Hanks to be a part of Solo. If this does continue, I say remove the helmets and have these A-listers show their face, but still keep them in small roles. These cameos have become a neat little way for actors who otherwise wouldn’t have appeared in a Star Wars film, to do just that.
