Well someone had to do it, right? The YouTube channel derpfakes have digitally replaced Alden Ehrenreich with a younger version of Harrison Ford in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The video actually looks really good if you ask me, nice work here. Hearing Ehrenreich’s voice come out of Harrison Ford’s mouth is a bit jarring at first and for a second takes you out of the video. The words syncing up with Harrison’s mouth seems to be the biggest issue with this video, but other than that everything looks pretty fluid.
This video is sure to hit older Star Wars fans right in the feels. Seeing a younger version of the Han Solo we grew up with in different settings is something that can bring about the childlike awe they experienced in their younger days. We have already seen digital de-aging as well as fully digital representations of human beings on screen in films such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Ant-Man and the Wasp. And it’s a safe bet that as time goes on and the technology gets even better, we will see it used more and more.
