Sonic The Hedgehog Projected For $40-$45M Over Four-Day Opener

Sonic the Hedgehog is a movie many of us will be keeping a close eye on in the month to come. This was a movie that not many fans thought could be properly handled as a live-action, animated hybrid film, and that mindset was driven home when the first trailer dropped, revealing a creepy Sonic design. Of course, director Jeff Fowler has since gone in and had the Blue Blur redesigned.

But is it enough? Will audiences actually take to it? Well, we have our first idea of whether or not that will happen. According to THR, Sonic the Hedgehog is tracking between $40 million and $45 million in its long President’s Day weekend.

Of course, a redesign is important, but it won’t necessarily fix things if the story isn’t great. So, while that promising opening may actually hold, it’ll all depend on how well the movie is received for fans. However, with a reported $95 million budget, that figure isn’t so bad.
