Ben Affleck and Kevin Smith. It was one of the great director-actor relationships of the ’90s — one that would peter out over time as Affleck rose to superstardom. In fact, as far as we know (according to Smith), it’s been many years since the two of them had talked, and from the sound of it, there seems to be no intention to really pursue the relationship from either of them. That being said, it can’t be ignored that Smith is hard at work making Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

As diehard Smith fans know, Affleck played two key roles early on in his View Askewniverse, so in a film where either of Affleck’s characters could potentially pop up (either Shannon from Mallrats or Holden from Chasing Amy), it’s hard not to at least wonder if there is a possibility. Speaking with Collider, Affleck was asked if he was set to appear in the film.

“Your guess is a good as mine. I haven’t been asked to make an appearance but you never know, there’s still time. We’ll see. I think if it was up to me, I would rather do Holden than Shannon, but I would defer to Kevin.”

You hear that, Kevin Smith? It sounds like your boy is ready to jump into the movie, if you see it fit! Of course, Holden didn’t only show up in Chasing Amy. He also appeared in a key scene in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (and of course, we can’t forget Affleck also appearing as himself in the movie for Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season), so giving him a similar role in Reboot would be a good way to please fans.
