I don’t know about you but when the original Space Jam came out in 1996 it was a pretty big deal for most. I was at an age where clearly Michael Jordan was the epitome of athleticism (even after coming out of retirement which fans had been wanting) and I still loved Looney Tunes (as long as no one knew I did. Had to be cool). The film was an awesome combination of our animated friends with the likes of not only M.J., but Bill Murray as the coach and an all-star NBA lineup, who would turn into the Monstars, featuring Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Muggsy Bogues, Shawn Bradley, Larry Johnson, and Larry Bird (we’re talking the Dream Team here). Individuals still find a love for the film years later. They even had it on at a brewery a couple of weeks ago and the patrons were huddled around the TV’s.
Space Jam 2 had been whispered about for some time until it finally gained some footing with a July 2021 release. The film will feature the modern-day M.J. (let the debates begin), King Lebron James, as well as Don Cheadle and Sonequa Martin-Green. Like the first film, NBA players such as Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, and Kyle Kuzma are said to be making cameos as well as the welcome incorporation of WBNA stars including Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike, and Chiney Ogwumike.
