Spider-Man: Far From Home – These Trailer Easter Eggs Could Reveal BIG Plot Secrets

One of the things fanboy sites like LRM do with big new trailers is break them down in slow motion and try and spot all the little clues that can be seen. Well, yesterday we had a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home and many eagle-eyed fans have spotted some interesting little Easter eggs or clues, which could reveal some interesting identity changes.

So far from what we know, Spider-Man will be teaming up (initially) with Mysterio to take down the four Elementals. We say four, because whilst only three of them are shown clearly in the trailer, most fans tend to think the shot of the lightning storm over the bridge in London could be the fourth Elemental, Zephyr. The three we see clearly, we are told are Magnum, Hydron and Hellfire. Although fans of Spider-Man would be forgiven for immediately assuming these characters to be Sandman, Hydro Man and Molten Man respectively.

But the Elementals do exist and we just assumed that’s who was being used here, but is it? The first clue here was in the shot in Venice where we see Peter’s friend Ned and behind him, there is a banner that reads ASM 212. After some research by fans and shared with me by colleague Nick Doll it turns out this references The Amazing Spider-Man issue 212 — the first appearance of Hydro-Man. We know that the Elemental seen in Venice is Hydron (makes sense with all the water I guess), we also know this appears to be the first Elemental that Spider-Man encounters and the first time he meets Mysterio who whom we see heading into battle against this water villain.

Pretty cool little Easter egg, however, there is more.

A license plate in the shot showing Nick Fury and Maria Hill (sorry, the quality of the screen grab isn’t great here) with the sand-based creature begins with 463, and can you guess it? Sandman’s first appearance was in issue 4 of the comic in 1963. This one could be seen as a stretch, don’t get me wrong, until you add in the third example. In the shot of London where we see the fiery Elemental, we also see a car with the license plate 2865 SEP. Now, this is not a standard UK license plate in any way, but guess what? Yes, Molten Man’s first appearance was in issue 28 in 1965. Check it out below and again sorry for the resolution.

Now, if you ask me that’s a little bit too much of a coincidence to not be very deliberate. It does not, however, mean that these Elementals are in fact the more familiar classic Spider-Man villains, but it does make me start to speculate in ways I hadn’t previously.

So here is some speculation for you.

Most of us are all guessing that Mysterio will end up being the main villain of this movie and that as the movie progresses, Mysterio will turn out be doing something similar to Syndrome in The Incredibles. Specifically that he is pretending to fight these creatures to have the world believe he is some big superhero. Here at LRM, we were chatting and our initial guess was perhaps that Mysterio had found a way to bring these four Elementals back from whatever dimension they were banished to, but only after working out how to control them himself first.

However, what if Mysterio is simply using the myth of these Elementals to make it seem like they have returned, and in actual fact, he has simply recruited Sandman, Hydro Man and Molten Man to his cause? I’m not sure what his endgame would be (no pun intended), but I have a strong suspicion that there is more than meets the eye with this movie. It feels far too simple as it stands right now.

Peter goes on a trip, gets recruited by Fury to fight Elementals, starts to work with Mysterio, discovers Mysterio control the elementals and battles the villain who he had become friends with. Now I wonder if there are a few more twists and turns in this plot than we had guessed. But is that only what Marvel wants us to think at this point? One thing we can almost say for certain is that based on the leaked set videos, Spider-Man in the night time shot wearing his stealth suit, is actually facing off against Mysterio. This could be us looking at those leaked videos and taking them out of context I admit, but I’m guessing at some point Peter’s mission changes and he wears the Stealth suit to start spying on Quentin Beck aka Mysterio.

We also are pretty sure that Chameleon is in this movie, is it possible that Peter Parker was recruited by Chameleon instead of Nick Fury? Maybe, but there is no real evidence to point us in that direction. However, it’s an aspect all of us here considered, because Numan Acar is supposed to be playing Chameleon in Far From Home? Food for thought, as he is nowhere to be seen in these trailers, or is he?

Now this could all be simply a bit of skill from Marvel to send sites like LRM and you fans off into directions that have nothing to do with the movie. It could simply be a little nod to how similar these characters are to some of the classic Spider-Man villains referenced in the Easter eggs. Or, it could be a little clue that not all is as it seems in this movie, we must remember that Mysterio in most comic runs didn’t actually have any powers, but developed technologies to make it appear as though he did. Mysterio was also able to make people think monsters were attacking them in several runs and it was how the character was introduced in the classic ’90s cartoon series.

I’m starting to get a little hyped for this now I must tell you, I do like a good mystery to solve.

What do you think of the Easter eggs and do you agree with any of my speculation? Share any ideas you have with us below, maybe you’ll think of something we haven’t?
