Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Producer Says ‘Groundbreaking Art Techniques’ In Sequel Will Make Original Look ’Quaint’

Sony Dates Madame Web And Moves Across The Spider-Verse Plus More

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel could get a major art upgrade.

I remember when they first announced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Back then, we didn’t know a name or concept. All we knew is that it would be an animated Spider-Man film. I remember thinking the film would be pointless. That they wouldn’t do anything special with it that couldn’t be done in live-action. And then that first trailer hit. I was proven wrong in an instant and I couldn’t have been prouder. With its hyper-stylized art and animation, it set itself apart from virtually every other animated film under the sun.

Needless to say, the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel has big shoes to fill. But would it be able to fill them? That first movie took such a big stylistic swing, it was almost odd to think there’d be a sequel. Would said sequel wallow in mediocrity if it didn’t push the envelope once more? If it merely replicated the style of the original, would it seem nearly as flashy?

If that was your concern, it doesn’t sound like we have much to worry about. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producer Chris Miller took to Twitter to tease the new animation techniques.

“The development of new groundbreaking art techniques being done for the next Spider-Verse movie are already blowing me away. It’s going to make the first movie look quaint.”

Personally, I think this is great news. Without a doubt, the aesthetic gave the original film a real undeniable style. That being said, the film wouldn’t have been praised nearly as much if it wasn’t actually good. It had a real emotional core to it that helped elevate it above the “style over substance” concerns many had going into it.

Either way, as long as the story is on point, these new art techniques Miller is pushing can only be good news. Are you excited to see how the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel ultimately looks? Sound off in the comments below!
