Spider-Man: Marvel Considered Bringing In The New Captain America In Far From Home

Yes, we all loved Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and we all love Steve Rogers as Captain America, but his time as the star-spangled hero is over. He had his era over the course of several films, and now it’s time to see Sam Wilson take on the role in the next batch of stories. But when exactly will we get to see him Captain America-ing? Will we have to wait until the Disney+ show hits the new streaming service? We just may.

However, there was a point in which the filmmakers were contemplating bringing the newly-minted Cap into Spider-Man: Far From Home. The information came courtesy of creative executive Eric Carroll, who spoke with ComicBook.com.

“We briefly talked about bringing in Falcon as Captain America at the end, like maybe once Peter’s arced, and he’s sort of like leading the team, like maybe he calls in a favor,” Carroll said. “But we also thought it was really important to the arc of this movie that there not be other Avengers available to Nick Fury or Peter, so he’d have to step up and do it himself.”

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige added to the reasoning behind them not utilizing the new Cap, saying:

“Ultimately, Spider-Man: Far From Home is Spider-Man’s journey, whether any other heroes appear in it or not. It’s all about Peter stepping up. And Peter getting out of the shadow, not just of Tony but of the Avengers in general. Because by the way, he’s Spider-Man. He doesn’t need to be in the shadow of the Avengers. So other than Maria, and Nick, and Happy, and the emotional presence of Tony… You hear, he asks about Thor. He asks about Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel.”

All in all, this was a good choice, I think. These Spider-Man movies are firmly integrated into the MCU — so much so I can see complaints that they could potentially take away from Peter himself. In avoiding the new Cap, they’re avoiding letting their lead get upstaged. Probably a good move, when all said and done.
