It’s been tough to keep track of what is going on with the Star Trek franchise lately, first we heard the next Star Trek film was moving ahead with Chris Hemsworth set to reprise his character as Kirk’s father. Then we heard that Quentin Tarantino wanted to make a Star Trek film and confusion began in earnest.

We now know that Tarantino is currently filming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood about the Manson murders and that this could end up being Tarantino’s last film as a director. Or, he may decide to film Star Trek 5 after he is done with his latest movie. So where does that leave Star Trek 4, is it still going ahead as planned?

We recently heard from Zachary Quinto who plays Spock and he indicated that Star Trek 4 was moving ahead with the Tarantino idea set to be Star Trek 5. Now, That Hashtag Show claims that filming will begin on Star Trek 4 in early 2019. Will this be the same story involving Kirk’s father, or has the script been changed since that was first pitched? The outlet also says Star Trek 4 is looking for two female villains for the next movie, along with a new female hero role also.

Previously announced in April this year Star Trek 4 will be helmed by The Defenders’ S.J. Clarkson who would provide the franchise’s first female director and it will again be produced by JJ Abrams who first rebooted the series in 2009’s Star Trek. It would be fair to say I have not been a fan of this new version of Star Trek so far and I was much more excited by the idea of a Tarantino version of Trek than I am with any other Star Trek ideas. Of course, we can only judge the finished product and who knows, Star Trek 4 could turn out to be great, I just won’t hold my breath for it.

What do you think, excited for Star Trek 4 or like me are you just waiting for them to get round to Tarantino’s Star Trek 5? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
