Star Trek – New Series Starring Characters From Discovery Headed to CBS All Access

Star Trek Netflix

Trekkies rejoice! CBS All Access has announced another new Star Trek series. The new show will star Star Trek: Discovery fan favorites Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, and Anson Mount as their respective characters. The show’s title even perks the interests of a non-trekkie such as myself, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The series will be set 10 years before Captain Kirk came aboard as captain of the Enterprise. Check out what executive VP and head of programming at CBS All Access Julie McNamara had to say on the matter below.

“Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ last season. This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.”

Executive producer Akiva Goldsman:

“This is a dream come true, literally. I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s. I’m honored to be a part of this continuing journey along with Alex, Henry and the fine folks at CBS.

Alex Kurtzman:

“When we said we heard the fans’ outpouring of love for Pike, Number One and Spock. When they boarded Star Trek: Discovery last season, we meant it. These iconic characters have a deep history in Star Trek canon, yet so much of their stories have yet to be told. With Akiva and Henry at the helm, the Enterprise, its crew and its fans are in for an extraordinary journey to new frontiers in the Star Trek universe.”

CBS appears to be all in on taking Star Trek‘s small screen adventures to where few shows have gone before (ducks). And as I said above, while I’m not big on the Trek I am happy for the fans. It’s great to see a fanbase get what they want. It’s also nice to see the powers that be listening to the fanbase, as Kurtzman mentioned above.

It stands to reason that with my love of sci-fi, I should be a Star Trek fan. It really doesn’t make much sense to me. However, I do have a healthy interest in the adult animated Star Trek: Lower Decks, which according to Variety is set to premiere later this year.
