It has been confirmed that Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia will appear in the upcoming final chapter in Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy. To the relief of many fans, it was announced that previously shot footage of Fisher would be used, and that the filmmakers would not use CGI to bring Fisher back, the same way they did to bring back Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Fisher’s Brother, Todd, spoke with ETCanada, and talked about how special it is that his sister will return in Episode 9.

“My sister and Princess Leia are the same thing. And the idea of that story stopping and her not carrying forward is very disturbing to me. The things that she shot a few years ago are frozen in time, so to speak, and [have] been reborn into the final Star Wars where she is the character that needed to continue. It is awesome that it worked out this way and, thanks to [director] J.J. Abrams, this is going to be very magical and important to us all.”

As long as they can use the footage properly and fit it near seamlessly into the film, I am happy to have Leia return for what we now know is the final installment of the Skywalker Saga. It is fitting as even though she doesn’t carry the name, she does carry the Skywalker bloodline.
