This is becoming a Star Wars tradition, another director is being replaced. Deadline is reporting that Tony Gilroy is stepping down as director of the Cassian Andor Disney+ series. Toby Haynes from Black Mirror is stepping to replace Tony for the first three episodes. Now before you lose your cool and start cursing at Kathleen Kennedy for running off another director, this news is actually a good reason.
According to the report Tony Gilroy had to make a quick decision to leave his home in New York and travel to London for filming. Current spikes in Covid-19 cases in Europe have made governments consider going back into a lockdown. This meant that Tony would have to leave his home in New York well before shooting began. Gilroy decided against leaving and Toby Haynes will step into the role of director.

It has been rumored that Toby was on a shortlist to director other episodes so it makes sense for him to take over. While changing directors in not something new for Star Wars projects, the news of this change doesn’t seem as bad as previous changes. Tony Gilroy will continue to be a part of the series as executive producer and Showrunner.
The Disney+ series focuses on Rebel agent Cassian Andor prior to the events of Rogue One. It was previously announced that Gabriel Luna would return as Andor, while Alan Tudyk is set to reprise his role as K-2SO, Andor’s droid sidekick.
