Star Wars: Don’t Expect A Solo Follow-Up Any Time Soon

Poor Lucasfilm. That studio had big plans for the franchise moving forward. Remember when we were going to be getting an anthology film every other year? Those were the days. It was before the controversy that was Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the flop that was Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the travesty that was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Now, they pivoted their strategy, leaving their next moves up in the air — at least publicly.

But is Lucasfilm actively pursuing a follow-up to Solo: A Star Wars Story? If you watched that movie, you’ll know that it didn’t have nearly as much closure as the likes of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. There was definitely a promise of more to come, and those who liked the film were eager to partake. Furthermore, it was reported back in 2018 that actor Alden Ehrenreich’s contract had actually extended for two more Han Solo movies. Even writer Jon Kasdan shared potential ideas for a sequel.

But after being the massive flop it was, you shouldn’t be holding your breath.

“Don’t think anyone’s pursuing a Solo sequel at the moment @KenobiJj I think a feature, at this point,” Kasdan wrote a fan on Twitter. “Would be a tough sell & the D+ Star Wars slate is really…pretty packed, all shows I’m lookin forward to.”

I, for one, am disappointed. I don’t know if you know this, but there was a lot of criticism from fans about this movie. I know, insane, right? Star Wars fans actually hate a Star Wars movie? Ridiculous. You’d never expect it. But one criticism is just how un-Solo Han Solo is in the film. He’s more of a happy-go-lucky Luke Skywalker than a Han Solo. Personally, I’d hoped that any follow-ups would see him devolve to an increasingly cynical man.

Sadly, given how poorly that movie did, that ain’t going to happen. But are you sad about this? Let us know if you’d watch a Solo follow-up movie in the comments down below!
