Star Wars: The Rise of Skwalker – Writer Chris Terrio Reveals The Constantly Changing Nature Of The Script

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker brought an end to a story that spanned over 40 years. While no ending would please every fan, the final installment to Disney’s sequel trilogy still left many of us wondering, is this really how the saga ends? With thunderous mediocrity and mild applause?

Co-writer on the film, Chris Terrio, recently revealed how he and J.J. Abrams were constantly rewriting the script trying to improve on any aspect they possibly could. Check out what Terrio had to say below.

“I’ve never rewritten a film as much as this one. It’s like a tide. There’s a new script every morning. But we just keep going at it and going at it, loosely thinking that it’s not good enough. It’s never good enough…Luckily, the production team is so good that they can shift and adjust. We’re course-correcting as we go – we’re trying things, and some things don’t work and some things aren’t ambitious enough. Some things are overly ambitious. Some things are too dense. Some things are too simple. Some things are too nostalgic. Some things are too out-of-left-field. We’re finding our balance.”

Well, there’s your problem.

Ahh, so there indeed was course correction It’s admirable the two were truly trying to bring fans the best product possible, but from what Terrio had to say above, it appears as if overthinking is to blame for the final product. However, after Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi dismantled the trilogy foundations, Terrio and Abrams had one of the more difficult tasks every put before a team of writers.

There were certainly aspects of the film I enjoyed but was it a rousing end to what is arguably the most popular franchise is the history of cinema? I’m afraid it wasn’t, but that’s just mu opinion, while I know I am not alone, I do know there’s are fans who feel differently.
