Could Dave Filoni be teasing Rex in The Mandalorian Season 2? The biggest news surrounding Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 so far has been the casting of Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. This Rex tease is a bit sketchy, but when we look at how Filoni teased Ahsoka, you never know?

It was only in the last week or so we found out Ahsoka Tano was coming to The Mandalorian. However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed that Filoni teased Ahsoka months ago on Twitter. At the time, Filoni posted a drawing of Ahsoka with Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. The drawing had Gandalf telling Ahsoka “they thought I was dead too, and look how that turned out?” Well, now Filoni has changed the banner on his Twitter profile.

I can’t post the image, but if you click on Filoni’s account in the course section below you can see what I am talking about. Filoni’s new banner has Ahsoka and an old Captain Rex, in what looks like a very Mandalorian type image. The pair were colleagues in The Clone Wars and later again in Rebels animated shows. It would be reasonable to guess that Ahsoka and Rex could still be working together by the time of The Mandalorian. So is Filoni teasing us that Rex will also make a live-action debut in The Mandalorian Season 2?

I admit it’s a bit of a stretch, but so was The Ahsoka and Gandalf image, until it wasn’t. The more you think about this, the more sense it begins to make. So let’s get speculative and make a guess that Rex will show up, who plays him? Temuera Morrison would be the obvious choice here. Morrison played Jango Fett, and all the adult Clones in the prequel trilogy. Given that Rex is now much older than Morrison was in the prequels, it would make sense for him to play an older Rex here. Morrison last played a Clone back in 2005, that’s 15 years ago, so, with a white beard, he could play Rex. In fact, it would be a bit weird for Rex to not be played by Morrison canon wise at this point.

Let’s be clear, we don’t know if we are getting Rex in The Mandalorian Season 2. However, it seems like a very plausible theory at this time, but a theory only.
