Star Wars: J.J. Abrams Feeling Better About The Rise Of Skywalker Than The Force Awakens At This Point

In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley says she's ready for a Rey return in the upcoming Star Wars sequel currently in development.

The end of an era is approaching. In less than a month, the fandom known as Star Wars will decide whether or not this sequel trilogy of films was worth it. But how does director J.J. Abrams feel about the impending The Rise of Skywalker film? The marketing has given virtually nothing away, but at this point, many are wondering whether or not we should be worried about the film to come.

In a new interview with EW, Abrams even admits that they are racing to get it done, as they have three fewer months to work on the postproduction as they did with The Force Awakens.

“So much is still being worked on,” Abrams told the outlet. “It’s literally a practical race to get it finished.”

But should that concern us? Abrams doesn’t seem to think so, as he is feeling “infinitely better” about The Rise of Skywalker at this stage in the game as he did with The Force Awakens.

“We had more reshoots on Episode VII than this one. We had more story adjustments on VII than this one. We didn’t know if these characters would work, if the actors would be able to carry a Star Wars movie. There were a lot of things we didn’t know. On this, we knew who and what worked, and everyone is doing the best work I’ve ever seen anyone do. But the ambition of this movie is far greater than Force Awakens. What we set out to do was far more challenging. Everything is exponentially larger on this.”

If nothing else, the expectations are certainly large. While The Force Awakens had a lot of heavy lifting to do, The Rise of Skywalker is coming off of the most polarizing Star Wars film to date, as well as the pressure of closing out a nine-episode saga.
