Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has become the last hope for Star Wars fans to get a new video game within the next year. With both Star Wars Eclipse and Star Wars Hunters being delayed, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake being delayed indefinitely the only hope left for the immediate future is Survivor. A new job posting on Respawn’s website now may mean the game is behind schedule for a March 2023 release. Respawn is currently looking for a highly skilled Senior VFX Artist to join the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor team.
The description of the job asks for someone who is a highly skilled Senior VFX Artist that will embrace their philosophy and share their hard-earned real-time rendered VFX expertise to create an incredible experience for their players. Specifically they need someone who has experience in world-building and creating high-quality, in-game environment dynamics (destruction, particle effects, etc.)

The posting of needing a Senior VFX Artist to join the team doesn’t scare me personally as most developers add to their team throughout the timeline. It is the timing of the job posting that scares me. With less than a year to go before launch for Respawn to be looking for a Senior VFX Artist doesn’t bode well to meet the launch date. Unless someone with exceptional talent comes on board soon the probability of the game being ready by March next year doesn’t seem possible.
The announcement for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™ at Star Wars Celebration last May was one of the biggest stories to come from the convention. What made this game have more hope than the others is the team at Respawn that worked on the original Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was coming back for the sequel. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order became one of the most successful Star Wars games ever with Survivor set to expand upon the iconic Star Wars story. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being built for the current generation of gaming hardware to create a deeper and more expansive Star Wars experience for players worldwide.
