We just can’t stop, won’t stop hoping that somewhere down the line, we’ll be getting that long-awaited Obi-Wan spinoff film. It’s been rumored since Lucasfilm first announced they would be making anthology films that one would chronicle an adventure of the Jedi-in-hiding at some point between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Now, The Belfast Telegraph is reporting that Star Wars creator George Lucas was in Belfast this past Christmas. His reason? He was scouting locations for, you guessed it, an Obi-Wan spinoff. The outlet even went so far as to state that Ewan McGregor would be reprising his role, which he’s played since 1999’s The Phantom Menace.

While Lucas was the one doing the scouting, the outlet only stated that he gave his approval for the spinoff film to film in Northern Ireland, though he was working to keep it all quiet. Here’s what an insider told the outlet:

“We’ve been told there will be work throughout 2019 because Star Wars is coming to Belfast. It was all very low key, only a few people knew that the old guy walking round the set was George Lucas. It was only when we were told about Star Wars coming here next year that it dawned on us that was why he was here before Christmas.”

While some may think this is a hint that Lucas himself may be helming the project, it’s a move that seems highly unlikely. Lucasfilm has always worked to distance themselves from many of his ideas and overall influence since Disney made the purchase. That being said, perhaps they could work out a deal that gives him some, but not complete, influence on a project like this.

This all sounds promising, but as of right now, it’s all hearsay, and with 2019 still nearly a full year away, there’s plenty of time for those plans to fall through.

This is the only story between 3 and 4 i ever wanted. Rogue One was great, but I’m tired of stuff between the PT and OT. Time to go far into the past. Sith War or Hyper Space War stuff.

    • Atirus

Yep. I’ve had enough of the Skywalkers fucking up the galaxy. Let’s see some new timelines and fresh new characters…fucking up the galaxy!

  • Broian

I don’t mind Lucas being involved in a technical or idea aspect, just do not let him direct!

    • FeixPunk

Or write! The PT movies were writing atrocities!

      • Broian

Agreed! In my mind that was under the technical piece. As ESB proves, his material in someone elses hands can be wonderful.

    • Jason Tyler

yea lets stick with Rian Johnson….oh wait

GL over any new director any day!

      • RadicalAgnostic

        Lucas lost it decades ago.

        • Jason Tyler

No prequels, SW wouldn’t be where it was today. The end

          • Brafdorf

            lol what

          • RadicalAgnostic

What, you mean with everyone throwing rocks at it? The prequels were *horrible.*

          • KeroT

Thats an understatment. The prequels was a abomination.

          • Rondell Vector Prime

Yet the prequels were much better than these last two bloated corpses were got as Star Wars sequels.

          • Jason Tyler

I guess you dont understand the significance of what the prequels did for SW popularity and resurgence in the late 90s and early 2000s.

A whole generation grew up on those movies, without them SW wouldn’t be where it is today, just like I said.

          • RadicalAgnostic

The prequels almost killed Star Wars for good.

          • Jason Tyler

Just because you didn’t like the films critically doesn’t mean anything. I’m sorry but you’re horribly wrong. Prequels did $3 billion in gross sales and many billions more in merch.

The special editions which came out a few years before didn’t even crack $500 million combined.

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

  • Harold and Maude’Dib

This sounds like utter tabloid nonsense.

  • randomironicname

Why Northern Ireland? Shouldn’t the movie be based on Tantooine?

  • Nay sayer!

I’ll believe it when It’s made official. It’s the one actual story we want not Solo. Rogue was phenomenal and glad we got it but this is the daddy of the lot. After that and 9 no more. Move completely away from the Skywalkers go hundreds of years ahead or a few millenia back

  • Victor Roa

LUCAS IS BACK BABY!!! Muttering old man self deprecating jokes.

  • Awesome Welles

Lucas is no longer involved with Star Wars. Why would he be scouting locations?

    • Lenin1959

Exactly. He may have been in Belfast but definitely not for Disney. This story has been written by somebody who obviously has not checked any background information.
