Star Wars Resistance, the anime inspired and most recent animated series has been renewed for a second season by Disney Channel. The series follows a young pilot named Kazuda Xiono, who is recruited to spy on the First Order. The show debuted in October of last year and will return January 13 to begin the conclusion of its first season.

I watched the first episode, and unfortunately it didn’t grab me. I find the series geared toward younger viewers a little too much, this is odd as I was a big fan of Star Wars Rebels. I also think Star Wars: The Clone Wars has some of the best content and stories of the entire franchise, films included.

I feel a disturbance in the Force, one that personally is quite unsettling. Counting Resistance, and the upcoming series The Mandalorian and the yet to be titled Diego Luna live-action series, it seems as if Disney is moving the franchise away from the aspect that I (and I assume many others) love the most, the Jedi/Sith dynamic. Sure, I understand there is a whole galaxy to explore and I do enjoy the warring military factions of the Rebellion/Resistance vs the Empire/First Order, but not as much as watching Space Knights/Wizards battle it out.

Some find it an old and tired dynamic, but I still think there is so much more than can be done with it. Perhaps the next series that is greenlit will involve a Jedi, Sith, or both. Something we haven’t seen on screen is a detailed training of a Sith apprentice, I think that could be interesting. Or perhaps the world of what is known as “Grey Jedi”, that were once popular in the now non-canon Expand Universe.
