Star Wars Rey Sequel Cast Already Signed? | Barside Buzz

Bit of a strange piece of Barside Buzz today, namely a sort of claim that the Star Wars Rey sequel movie cast may already be signed. To start with we should look at some of the development of this movie. To begin with this story featured an older Rey played by someone they imagined to be like Helen Mirren. The idea was Rey training two students, a male and a female who would be the leads. At the time John David Washington was heavily linked to one of these lead roles.

However, the story was retooled by Lucasfilm to feature a Rey young enough to still be played by Daisy Ridley. Original writer Damon Lindelof left, and Stephen Knight was brought on board to craft a new script. The movie’s director has always been Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy throughout this process.

Ergo, outside of Rey herself and rumors that there are version of the script depending on whether John Boyega agrees a return or not, we’ve heard very little. According to Jeff Sneider on this week’s The Hot Mic however, the cast may already be signed. Sneider doesn’t quite claim this is fact, but does say he believes the cast are already on board and there have been no announcement’s yet and no trades have cracked the story.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we got Star Wars news this month. Star Wars has always been a franchises that has like…things don’t always get announced. I remember years ago that this was uproar that Star Wars hadn’t hired a writer of colour, but I came out, after people told me privately, and said that they have writers of colour, but that they don’t want to respond to all the nonsense essentially.”

“I do think that there are things lying in wait. Possibly casting news that are already done. I think that the Daisy Ridley movie has its leads already and it is just a matter of a reporter finding out.”

This could be something Sneider knows and has been asked not to break. Or, it could just be Sneider deciding he thinks this could have and may happen. I won’t say which. Sneider has been ahead of some trades with Star Wars news recently, especially on this particular movie. However, you could also say he claims nothing of the sort depending on how you read that statement. Ergo, maybe this is a nothing story? But when Sneider talks about this Rey sequel I tend to listen because he’s been the best source of info for a while.

What do you think, are the Star Wars Rey sequel movie cast already signed? Thoughts below as always.
