Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – New Art Book Reveals Early Talks Of Rey Not Being A Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker put a cap on the saga that spanned more than four decades. The trilogy seemed jumbled, clumped together, and without any real guidance. No, that’s how it seemed to me, and I know I’m not alone, but I also know there were fans who really enjoyed it.

One of the major questions fans had from the first film, The Force Awakens, was who is Rey? Many of us hoped she had some familiar lineage, and while that did end up being the case, it wasn’t really what most of us were thinking. Rey, by blood, is a Palpatine, the granddaughter of the Emperor. In name, she’s a Skywalker.

It seems that it was at least discussed that Rey wouldn’t a REAL Skywalker since before the release of The Force Awakens. The recently released The Art Of Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker features a quote from Pablo Hidalgo from 2014. Check it out below.

“I like the idea that she’s going to be our Skywalker, but she’s not a Skywalker. Then, for our purpooses, ‘the Skywalker’ is really a metaphor. It doesn’t have to be something that’s directly connected by blood.”

I would like to know when the idea of her being a Palpatine first came about and when it was finalized. I like Rey as a character, I think they could have done much better with her. Make her struggle more, give her a bit more depth. Which is sort f how I feel aout the sequel trilogy as a whole.
