Star Wars: There Could Be A Third Live-Action Series After Episode IX Hits

I know what some of you are thinking? “Third live-action series? What about the first two?” Okay, that’s fair, especially if you haven’t been kept abreast of the new series coming out on Disney+ at some point in the near future. So, if that’s you, here’s what’s going on. Disney’s new streaming service will be home to at least two new live-action Star Wars series. One is The Mandalorian from Jon Favreau, and one is a Cassian Andor series, which follows Diego Luna’s character from Rogue One.

However, because Star Wars is Star Wars and because Disney likes money, you know we were bound to get another series down the line. The big question is “when?” When will Disney bite the financial bullet and throw down those blockbuster dollars for another Star Wars show? Well, it sounds like it’s coming soon, as Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed on a Q&A call (via /Film).

“In the interim, we are producing two live-action Star Wars series for Disney+. One of them is called The Mandalorian, which is being supervised by Jon Favreau, and the other one is a bit of a prequel to Rogue One. My guess is there will probably be one more, at least one more, live-action series that we produce for Disney+, meaning a Star Wars series, before we release the next film.”

So, that means it’ll likely appear at some point after Episode IX and before the David Benioff and Dan Weiss film in December of 2022. There is no word on what the show will be, but although we’ll be getting fewer Star Wars movies in the years to come, don’t expect to go completely dry for too long.
