It’s been about two-and-a-half years since the most divisive film in the Star Wars franchise, The Last Jedi, was released. The film split the fandom to the point that it may never be fully repaired. Since then, countless debates and arguments have been had by fans. And not only fans, but many who have played roles in a galaxy far, far away have also expressed their opinions.

Most recently it was Sam Witwer who expressed his thoughts on the film. Witwer was originally the actor used for Gaken Marek in the Force Unleashed video games and went on to voice Maul in The Clone Wars and Rebels. You can check out what he had to say below during his Twitch live stream.

“The Last Jedi, to me, felt like a movie made by a guy who hadn’t quite done his homework… I think Rian Johnson’s a talented guy, but Bruce Lee didn’t develop Jeet Kune Do without learning Kung Fu first. You can’t reinvent Star Wars without knowing Star Wars first and he didn’t — for me — make a compelling argument for why Luke didn’t go and help his sister.”

I have to agree with Mr. Witwer. This doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has read my articles concerning the film. Like many of us, Johnson has been a fan of the franchise since he was a child, which to me, makes most of his decisions in the film all the more perplexing.
