In a recent interview actor Steven Yeun apologises to fans for leaving Thunderbolts and confirmed it was due to scheduling conflicts. Yeun finished off by saying he absolutely still wants to be in a Marvel movie one day. The actor spoke to Variety following yesterday’s news that he had left Thunderbolts. As you will recall at the time none of the trades stated any specific reason for Yeun leaving. One trade even intimated Yeun had never officially been cast, which I don’t buy at all.

Here is what Yeun had to say to Variety. He explained that the recent strikes and subsequent delays were the major factor in this last minute change.

“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” Yeun explained. “But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.”

However Yeun left the door open for another shot at another role down the line.

“I wanna do a Marvel movie,” he added.

“It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out,” Yeun said.

Asked what Marvel movie he would like to work on in the future, Yeun replied, “I think it’s too early to say that. I probably pissed off too many people leaving, so I’m just gonna say, ‘Thank you for having me.’”

“I have some ideas,” Yeun teased. “But I heard if you put it out there, you’ll never get it, so I’ll keep it close to my chest.”

I mean, there were probably people at Marvel that were annoyed. However, probably not a Yeun himself. It’s hardly Yeun’s fault the strikes happened the and movie was delayed by over a year. If he has contracts with other projects and they are not delayed then he’s legally bound to the ones that start on time, not the delayed project. I guess what I am saying is, I doubt Marvel have backlisted him for this, he’s a star and they like him as an actor.

As for what other roles could Yeun take? I mean, the lists is long, there are a lot of Marvel characters still not in the MCU. Certainly I would have never linked Yeun with Sentry and yet that’s what happened. I won’t stick my neck out anymore than Yeun, but eventually there will be a lot of X-Men to cast. Just saying.

Well, what do you think of his comments as Steven Yeun apologises to fans for leaving Thunderbolts and confirmed it was due to scheduling conflicts? Thoughts below as always.
