Stormlight Archive 4: Rhythm of War is nearing the end.

Another day, another Stormlight Archive update. We are fast approaching the day when we can hold the next thousand-page tome from Brandon Sanderson. And what a week it’s been for fans of his work. Not only do we know that this is essentially the last week he’ll be working on Rhythm of War, but it was also the week he launched his Way of Kings Kickstarter. By the way, as of this writing, that Kickstarter has made $4.8 million — putting at nearly 20x its $250,000 goal.

But just because there’s been so much attention cast on his latest Kickstarter doesn’t mean he’s let it wreck his week of productivity. Sanderson is nothing if not a reliable workhorse, and he’s proved that this week. In the midst of the Kickstarter, his wedding anniversary, and livestream, he’s still made incredible progress.

As we reported last week, Sanderson gave us an update on the final draft of Rhythm of War, stating he had around 140,000 words left. This meant he had roughly 800 manuscript pages. Now, five days later, he finds himself much further along. Thanks to his Twitter update, we know he has around 50,000 words left.

Structure-wise, he looks like he’s deep into the third act and getting ready for that final climax — whatever that may be. Assuming he ends up with a story that spans north of 450,000 words, that means he has around 11% of the story left to edit. For anyone else, that’s a solid amount of time. For Sanderson, we’re looking at just a few days, tops.

As he mentioned on a previous livestream, Rhythm of War will be 100% finished by this weekend. So, I hope you have your reading glasses ready for its November 17 release.
