Stranger Things 4 Set To Begin Filming Soon In Lithuania

We have known for some time that the fourth season of Stranger Things was due to start filming in early 2020. Stranger Things has been a phenomenally huge hit for Netflix and a new season of the show arriving has become an event in the very few years it has been on our screens.

Season 3 ending with around half of the lead cast moving out of Hawkins (no way I would stay there myself), though we do expect events will bring them all back together one last time to face to horrors of the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer itself in Season 4.

According to scooper Charles Murphy, whilst he does not have an exact date for filming to begin, he has heard that filming will begin not in Atlanta as usual, but in Lithuania within the next month. This does make sense when we consider that after-credits scene in Stranger Things 3.

After believing Chief Hopper dead, the after credit scene ‘alluded’ to the fact that Hopper may have survived and been captured by the Soviet Union. If Hopper is alive, then he is in a remote Russian Prison and the Lithuanian filming is set to be using the same locations where Chernobyl was filmed. It doesn’t take rocket science to work out why they would be beginning in Lithuania before the rest of the filming takes place in Atlanta was per usual.

As for whether Hopper is alive, David Harbour who plays Hop recently spoke with LA Times and gave his own view on what he would like to see happen ‘if‘ creators the Duffer brothers decide he is still alive.

“One way it could be viewed is he has to die to make it up to [his daughter] Sara and see her in the afterlife. The other view is that because of this newfound relationship with Eleven [Millie Bobby Brown], he needs to shed his skin, make a sacrifice that allows his character to re-emerge. He was finally able to really take a bullet for a child, which he had never been able to do because Sara died of cancer. I think there’s a perfection to it. Now whether or not there’s some sort of second-act resurrection would be very interesting to me, clearly, for obvious reasons,” he says with a jolly laugh. “The fact that I desperately love the show and desperately love the character … but that remains to be seen. He would certainly have to emerge a different individual.”

There is currently no release date set for Stranger Things 4, though I have suspected since Season 3 that it would hit around the Christmas holiday season. My reasons for this are that each season of the show has been set around a holiday period, and the characters do mention they will catch up at Christmas. I could be wrong and maybe there is not enough time to have Season 4 ready for this holiday season, but I still think that will be the target.
