Suicide Squad: Director David Ayer’s F-Bomb To Marvel Forgiven

Who would believe that those funny pages read by nerds would inspire such vitriol? It used to be the jocks with their headbutting and school spirit-hogging rivalries. While they had that, the comic book fans were perfectly fine with sequestering themselves in a huddle and just zoning out to men in tights completing superheroic feats. Not anymore.

Recently my favorite director to ever touch Marvel, James Gunn, went onto Twitter to talk about the rivalry between Marvel and DC. And who better to do so? Gunn is about to be responsible for pumping new blood into the Suicide Squad. You might recall what Gunn did at Marvel when he turned a third-tier group of heroes known as the Guardians of The Galaxy into fan favorites for many.

Of course, there are some people that felt like Gunn might have some bias or even hatred towards his previous employer Marvel. The man did decide to switch teams and head over to DC (even if temporarily), something that no other director has done as of the writing of this article. So, when Gunn voiced his opinion that he never felt any animosity between either Marvel or DC while he worked for them, Suicide Squad director David Ayer decided to praise Gunn’s mood about the entire Marvel v DC rivalry.

That’s when a fan was quick to point out that Ayer had famously spouted “F@#$ Marvel at the world premiere of Suicide Squad. In Ayer’s defense, he responded with something that I cannot read because it’s in Spanish. But I did use Google translate, and here’s what he said:

“Yes and I immediately regretted it. I apologized and had a nice exchange with Stan Lee. What else can I do? All sins are forgivable, right?”

For context, here’s the original tweet.

Throughout history, there have always been rivalries and those rivalries should be fun and uplifting. Heck, rivalry is a good a$$ motivator. The problem is when that rivalry becomes toxic. It’s like peeing in the pool. What do you think of Ayer’s comments?
