Tom Hiddleston Says It Would Be Unwise To Think Loki’s Story Is Finished

Marvel star Tom Hiddleston says it would be unwise to think Loki’s story is now finished in the MCU. The comments come after previous comments from Hiddleston just after the Loki S2 finale had fans wondering if this meant retirement? Hiddleston never directly said he was finished as Loki. However, he did talk about how the finale was the end of a 14 year arc for the character. For me, I never felt it was mutually exclusive. Loki’s overall arc has I think come to an end, but that doesn’t mean he won’t show up again. I don’t think he needs a new story, but he can show up as a surprise when appropriate for sure.

However, in a more recent interview with ComicBook Hiddleston says it would be unwise to assume Loki’s story is now finished. Hiddleston points out that he’s already said goodbye to Loki twice at least, yet here he is. Therefore, whilst there may be nothing booked for Hiddleston as Loki, he’s not prepared to rule out a return.

“It’s so hard because I’ll be completely honest with you, Brandon, I have at least twice in my life said goodbye,” Hiddleston said. “I’ve written to Kevin Feige and Louis de Esposito and Victoria Alonso and been like, ‘Thank you so much. It’s been like the role of a lifetime,’ and they’ve written notes back saying, ‘Come and see us anytime. You’re always part of the family. We’re always here. You’ve given us so much and tears have been shared.’ So I think I’d be unwise at this point to be conclusive about any of it.”

Hiddleston himself seems to think there’s room for Thor and Loki to meet each other once more. After all, look how much they’ve changed since last the brothers met.

“I think both Thor and Loki have had to excavate and analyze the past and who they feel they really are and what they really want,” Hiddleston said. “But what’s interesting about family as well, this is just me thinking about it, is sometimes it will be difficult to let go of the preconception of who they used to be. Loki might be expecting Thor to behave in a certain way or be a certain way. Thor might be expecting Loki to be a certain way. So I think initially it would be really confusing, but also they’d been apart for a long time and no doubt they’ve been objects in each other’s mind. And so yeah, I think I wonder what a reunion would likely be, we’ll see.”

Hemsworth himself (as far as we know) has no projects booked. Yet, I could definitely see a place for both he and Hemsworth in Secret Wars if not The Kang Dynasty. I think it would be interesting for them both to see where they’ve come from to where they are now. Loki is essentially a proper God, the literal God of innumerable Universes. However, Loki didn’t do it to rule, but to save, sacrificing himself and his friendships. Meanwhile Thor, had a mental breakdown after killing Thanos, ended up helping defeat him anyway, and now is essentially a father to Love.

However, when it comes to Loki you also feel like there’s more to come. The TVA will still be involved in defeating Kang and stopping the Multiverse War. That TVA essentially now works for Loki who is holding the Multiverse together (literally). Surely he has to show up again? I’m kinda hoping Loki gives a helping hand here and there in a godly way to our heroes when the chips are down.

So, Tom Hiddleston says it would be unwise to think Loki’s story is now finished in the MCU. What do you think of Hiddleston’s comments? Thoughts below.
