Taika Waititi Praises Christian Bale’s Performance As Gorr In Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love And Thunder - Deleted Scenes, Emotional Comedy And Crazy Four Hour Cuts

Director Taika Waititi praises Christian Bale’s performance as Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder. Bale of course plays the central antagonist of this 4th Thor movie and the second under Waititi’s stewardship. In a summer preview by AP News Waititi teased and hyped his upcoming Marvel movie.

“Thor is just trying to figure out his purpose, trying to figure out exactly who he is and why he’s a hero or whether he should be a hero,” said director Taika Waititi. “I guess you could call it a midlife crisis.”

“It’s a great, really fun, weird little group of heroes, a new team for Thor with Korg, Valkyrie and The Mighty Thor,” Waititi said. “And, in my humble opinion, we have probably the best villain that Marvel’s ever had in Christian Bale.”

That is indeed heady praise. For me, when I think of Marvel’s best villains, there have been a few good ones. There have also been a few villains that I’m less enthusiastic about. Top for me Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk in Daredevil, alongside Thanos for very different reasons.

I love Bale as an actor, he picks his roles well. Therefore, I’m sure he would not have agreed to the part if it was a poorly written disposable bad guy. Still, how great Gorr is as a villain in the MCU will be judged by the fans upon release. I would say that it would be extremely tough for an antagonist to break those top two for me in only one movie. Fisk was built up over three full Seasons of a streaming show and Thanos built up over the entire Infinity Saga and then get’s two connecting movies as the main threat.

Knowing how crazy this movie is going to be with Waititi at the helm? I can’t wait to see Thor: Love and Thunder.
