I want to love the Terminator franchise, but I’ve been burnt more times than I can count. I want to believe it can be great again, but have been proven wrong again and again. But now, with the return of James Cameron as a producer and the arrival of Tim Miller in the director’s chair, I’m seeing myself give it yet another try. Against all odds, my dumbass wants to believe we have another good set of Terminator films in us.

And you know what? The new Terminator: Dark Fate trailer helps to restore a bit of that faith. Starting off in a riveting highway chase, it reintroduces us to the badass known as Sarah Connor (played once again by the amazing Linda Hamilton), and introduces us to two new Terminators — one played by Gabriel Luna and another by Mackenzie Davis.

For the most part, the tone is grounded and full of danger, and the only thing I’m reticent about is the plane fight. That seems a bit much when they can keep things pretty standard. So long as they retain the horror aspects that made the original so captivating, I think we’ll be good. And then there’s the big question of Schwarzenegger…who is he playing? Is this supposed to be the T-800 that sacrificed itself at the end of the T2…or is it someone else?

Linda Hamilton (“Sarah Connor”) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (“T-800”) return in their iconic roles in Terminator: Dark Fate, directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool) and produced by visionary filmmaker James Cameron and David Ellison. Following the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator: Dark Fate also stars Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna, and Diego Boneta.
