Amazon Drops Woody Allen’s Rainy Day In New York

Years ago, Woody Allen was once Tinseltown’s favorite indie golden boy but has seemingly morphed into a pariah in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Last year, Allen took it upon himself to suggest that he should be the poster boy for the #MeToo movement. In an interview with the Argentian news program Periodismo Para Todos, Allen was quoted as saying “I feel when they find people who harass innocent women and men, it’s a good thing that they’re exposing them,” Allen said. “But you know I, I should be the poster boy for the #MeToo movement because I have worked in movies for 50 years. I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses and not a single one — big ones, famous ones, ones starting out –have ever, ever suggested any kind of impropriety at all. I’ve always had a wonderful record with them.”

Also, back in 2018, Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow brought past child abuse allegations back to light. Even though the allegations were well known, Amazon reacted swiftly by indefinitely shelving Allen’s Amazon produced film A Rainy Day In New York. Now the director has obtained U.S. distribution rights to his film after filing a $68 million lawsuit against Amazon. No U.S. distributor has stepped up to the plate and acquired the film, though it does have international distributors on board.

Not much is known about the plot of A Rainy Day in New York except that it’s an ensemble romantic comedy focusing on two young adults who arrive in New York for the weekend and there’s a narrative in which an older man, played by Jude Law, has a relationship with Elle Fanning, who was 19 during the film’s production.
