Thanos Creator Jim Starlin Expect To See More Of The Mad Titan In The MCU — Here’s Why He’s Right

Want more Thanos in the MCU? You may get your wish.

Some think the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a problem. It’s a problem that’s seemingly gotten better as time has gone on, but one that persists all the same. I’m talking about their tendency to kill off their villains. It’s a problem that’s persisted as long as comic book movies have persisted. In the comics, villains, more often than not, live to fight another day. However, in the films, they’re usually executed by the end of the climax. It makes sense from a film perspective, but in a thriving universe, it does take the wind out of the sails for certain villains.

As time has gone on, Marvel Studios has pulled back from that habit. The likes of Zemo and Vulture have lived. But for every one of them you get villains like Killmonger, Hela, and Mysterio. One such villain who falls into that category is Thanos. Sure, I can’t imagine how they’d incarcerate the likes of him, but it is a bit sad we don’t get to see him butt heads with the Avengers again.

But that’s not to say we won’t see him again in the MCU.

“Well, I understand that the story’s not completely ended,” Starlin told ComicBook.com. “They’ve already announced that. I think a young Thanos appears in The Eternals. I remember reading that somewhere.”

Of course, we can’t take his word on it. From the sound of it, he simply thinks he read the news piece somewhere. As it stands, I don’t recall any official confirmation that he would be returning in any form. That being said, Starlin thinks it’s a matter of time before the character returns.

“They made a s*** load of money off this guy,” Starlin continued. “So I don’t see them retiring him anytime soon. Comic book characters tend to have an extended lifespan beyond the actors who work on them. I’m half expecting to see much more Thanos down the line.”

He’s likely not wrong. While Thanos is dead in two universes, the MCU has not always been a linear entity. We’ve seen time span decades. With Eternals, we’re apparently going to see a story that spans thousands of years. Given that, it’s not completely out of the question that we’ll see Thanos appear in some capacity — though in what capacity that is remains a mystery.

How do you feel about Thanos returning to the MCU in the past? Do you think it destroys any dramatic tension to show off older villains? Let us know your thoughts down below!
