According to a report from Variety, The Acolyte adds lead in Amandla Stenberg. The trade says Stenberg is in talks to lead the upcoming Disney+ series from creator Leslye Headland. It does sound as though Stenberg has not signed on the dotted line yet, so things could change., However normally at this point in negotiations its very rare for things to fall through. Meaning there is a good chance The Acolyte has a lead. Who that character is and what role they serve is unknown at this point? Rumors have The Acolyte related to the Dark Side in some way, but it’s hard to gauge exactly where this one is going?
What we do know is that this will be the oldest live-action Star Wars property. The Acolyte is set to take place many year prior to the events of The Phantom Menace. Whilst other mediums have gone further back than this, it will be a first for a live0-action project.
As reported by Variety:
Stenberg, who identifies as non-binary, broke out in the role of Rue in the 2012 feature adaptation of The Hunger Games. They have since gone on to star in films like The Hate U Give, The Darkest Minds, Everything, Everything, and the recent feature version of Dear Evan Hansen, playing Alana Beck. Stenberg has also appeared on television shows such as Sleepy Hollow, The Eddy, as Mr. Robinson. Their potential involvement in The Acolyte was first reported by The Illuminerdi.

The Acolyte is set to begin filming around May of next year. Barring some strange turn of events, it seems likely Amandla will be showing for work. It’s too soon to say how Stenberg will do in a role we know nothing about. I have not seen Stenberg often, but when I have they have been very good.
