The Batman Director Matt Reeves Not Sure He Could Make An MCU Movie

Is Robert Pattinson's Batman in The Penguin series? No idea, but DC boss James Gunn confirms there are no rights issues preventing it.

The Batman director Matt Reeves not sure he could make an MCU movie! Actually what Reeves is saying in a recent interview with Variety makes a ton of sense. Reeves points out that he respects Kevin Feige greatly, but he reckons he would get lost somewhere in all that.

“I have such respect for Kevin Feige and also for the [Marvel] filmmakers,” he says. “But to be honest with you, I just don’t know how I would make my way through that. There has to be some level of discovery for me, where I have some freedom to find my way. If I have to come into something that’s already set too firmly, then I think I would get lost. And I don’t think they would be happy with me either.”

Given that one of the things WB were willing to do with Reeves was let him break away from what came before in the DCEU this makes sense. Reeves is coming from a place where he wants to create a Batverse, first with The Batman, but then there are spin-off shows, (potentially three) and likely sequels on the way. However he was never keen to direct The Batman when it was written by and starring Ben Affleck. I think Reeves wants to create his own Batman Cinematic Universe or Batverse for short.

However, never say never, I wouldn’t put it past Kevin Feige to see that as a challenge and try and get Reeves to direct a picture in the MCU one day that would work for him. However, right now, Reeves focus is very much on the other side of the aisle creating a Batverse, and hoping fans love his new The Batman movie as much as the critics seem to.

What do you think, Could The Batman director Matt Reeves make an MCU movie? Or, do you get where he is coming from in his comments? Thoughts below as always.
