Here we are finally at my The Book of Boba Fett finale review. Episode 7 was released today and with the stage set, we all expected a few resolutions. Given that this week goes back towards a more familiar formula for the finale I am again going to try and stay SPOILER FREE for this review. I will of course be getting into full spoilers when Shockey, Kyle and I discuss the show in The Cantina later, which will hit tomorrow for any listeners. You can catch our coverage of last week’s episode in the embedded link on the name there.
The overwhelming feeling this week folks was one of, Meh! It was always going to be tough for this finale to live up to what was in my opinion the best 40+ minutes of Star Wars we’ve had since Return of the Jedi. So did it? No, not at all. Episodes 5 and 6 were amazing, but they left the Fett narrative to focus on Mando and Grogu. Now we are back with all the players together and it was all a little bit of a damp squib for me. A predictable action spectacle that didn’t excite enough.

There’s plenty of action, but I never found it all that impressively shot. When I compare the action scenes this week to those of Episode 5, there really is no comparison. I guess again, I am not particularly in love with the choices made by director Robert Rodriguez. If this episode had been directed by Bryce Dallas Howard who did 5? Maybe it would have improved? However the script was also not wonderfully written to begin with. The dialogue all seemed to be exposition designed to place characters where they needed to be for set pieces. The performances, not the strongest we’ve seen this season either.
Even a very climactic showdown never quite lived up to what I think some fans might have expected from this. Were there some good points? Absolutely! However it was a mixed bag and more slow Vespas, and empty streets, and slow motion deaths from blaster rifles, all made it feel clunky. I guess what I saw this week was something that looked very TV instead of cinematic and that was not the case in the previous two episodes by a long shot.
I didn’t hate what I saw, but there was nothing to love, or particularly geek out about apart from a few sparse moments.
GRADE: C+
Grade primarily so low because this was as season finale and deserved something a bit more special than we got. Leave your own The Book of Boba Fett Finale review below, if you can. Lets us know what you thought?
