Eric Kripke, The Boys showrunner teases Soldier Boy in Season 3. It has been known for some time that Jenson Ackles (Supernatural) will be making his debut in Season 3. However, if fans thought Ackles Soldier Boy would be a hero, think again. Is Homelander is about the worst possible version of Superman you could have? If so, it sounds like Soldier Boy is the worst Captain America you could have.
Kripke spoke with Variety about that Season 2 finale. He also teased what Soldier Boy will be like in Season 3.
“I think anyone expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy, they will be disappointed. I’ll say that! [Laughs]. In the comics he’s mostly just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander, I would say. As we’re writing him in this, we’re getting to really talk about the history of Vought because he’s like John Wayne: He’s one of these guys that’s been around for decades of Vought history. And he was Homelander before Homelander, so he’s from a different era, but he’s got the ego and the ambition — it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time.”

Like Cap being from a different time in the Avengers, Soldier Boy will represent that in The Boys. However, like almost all superhero’s in The Boys, they are not exactly heroes are they? I doubt Soldier Boy has the power set to compete with Homelander, but I bet he has the same ruthless sociopathic streak.
Without spoiling the climax of The Boys Season 2, it would be fair to say things are a little different now. Going in to Season 3, I am genuinely unsure of where this story is going. The transition from Season 1 into Season 2 was almost continuous. However, Season 2 did give us a kind of resolution the current plot, even if they also gave us enough hints that things are far from over.
