The CW Orders Riverdale And Jane The Virgin Spin-Offs, Nancy Drew Pilot

Looks like The CW has just ordered a whole batch of new pilots for many potential series in the future. Someone got overly-ambitious with their pen and greenlit pilots for four potential new series, all of which are based on pre-existing properties. We covered one of those possible shows earlier today — The Lost Boys — but there are a few more worth mentioning.

In addition The Lost Boys, we will be getting Katy Keene, a spin-off of the hit series Riverdale, which is a dark and twisted take on the Archie Comics series. And with this particular title, I think the word “spin-off” really has to be put in air quotes, as the character’s own journey takes place in New York. This may very well be a spin-off in the same way The Chilling Adventure of Sabrina ended up as a spin-off — as in not at all. But, I suppose if this does end up at The CW, they’ll likely cross over anyways.

Next up is a Jane the Virgin spin-off Jane the Novela. This is especially interesting since Jane the Virgin is ending after Season 5. But it looks like the spirit of the show will (possibly) live on in this anthology series, with each season being based on one of Jane’s novels. Jane herself (actress Gina Rodriguez) will be narrating the project, so that’s pretty cool.

Finally, we have a Nancy Drew drama series, which is based on the classic novels. This is especially interesting since we only recently got a trailer for the new kid-focused film. Given The CW’s track record, is it possible that this series will be aged up for their audience? One can hope so.
