We’ve been waiting for the Fantastic Four MCU movie ever since the talks about buying Fox began at Disney. Hell, fans have been waiting for a MCU version of Marvel’s First Family ever since Iron Man in 2008! Now Murphy’s Multiverse is saying they’re certain of the film’s production company place holder name. If this is true, then the movie is all but in pre-production.
The Not So Fantastic Four
The Fantastic Four has been a staple in the comics industry since 1961. The book was a first of it’s kind and humanized heroes in a way that became the standard for Marvel. People first, heroes second, and that ideology gave us the most relatable superheroes ever with the FF, Spider-Man, and The X-Men to name a few. Knowing this, it’s not surprising that studios wanted to make movies about Reed, Sue, Johnny, and, Ben. There have already been four movies featuring the team.

Roger Corman famously made an incredibly low budget film called TheFantastic Four in 1994. The film was never officially released but is easily found for free online and you can usually find bootleg DVDs/BRDs at conventions big and small. It really is a terrible film that must be seen.
In 2005 Tim Story (Barbershop, Ride Along) brought Jessica Alba and Chris Evans, as Sue and Johnny Storm respectively, to try for a successful FF franchise. The film did okay, but Dr. Doom was very poorly done. Story’s follow-up The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer gave us a better Doom, but ruined Galactus, turning the Giant Marvel villain into a f***ing cloud! These two are watchable, but not great.
Three down, one to go right? Well, that last one was Josh Trank’s disaster, Fant4stic Four. This film got everything wrong. The character arcs, the story, the editing… Literally, the entire movie is an example of what NOT to do. I don’t even care about the Sue Storm adoption thing or the race swapping, they didn’t even make those points matter in the film. This is one of the worst films ever made.
The Future Foundation of the MCU
Yeah, you comic geeks like that reference right? Murphy’s Multiverse has known about some production company name placeholders (a lot to say, I know) for the MCU for a while now. They believe that Solve Everything Productions is the code for the Fantastic Four MCU film. It makes sense as Reed is a problem solver and this movie may help stabilize the multiverse that we’re going to learn more about in WandaVision and Doctor Strange Into the Multiverse of Madness. We may even see something similar to 2015’s Secret Wars event in the comics where Reed (and his son in the books) help to reshape the universe into something more coherent. That was what was supposed to happen, but Marvel continues to Marvel every year. Additionally, bringing the FF into the MCU also helps replace Tony Stark as Earth’s greatest mind.
I wasn’t just being funny with the word “foundation” in this section. Reed Richards is one of the brightest minds in the books and will be in the films too. He is a founding member of the Illuminati and with the X-Men bringing Charles Xavier and Doc Strange already here… It’s easy to see where the FF can become key to the MCU and any future Avengers level event.
What is next?
We’ve waited patiently all this time, and we still don’t have anything official from Marvel Studios on any of the Fox properties being mixed into the MCU. With rumors of including the Fox films as part of the multiverse and all of the Spider-Man 3 stuff going on with Sony, we may see Chris Evans as Johnny Storm one more time. I would find that funny, but probably not like it. I really do not like the idea of the Fox properties, other than Deadpool, being brought into the MCU. Yes, that includes not wanting Hughe Jackman back as Wolverine for anything. Even a cameo. However, I don’t think Wade Wilson should be in the MCU proper. I think he should run parallel to the MCU and every now and then cross over for some laughs.
Murphy’s seems to believe this movie will hit in 2023. A recent tweet from Fandom alleges to show Disney’s movie dates through 2028. There are definitely untitled MCU films in 2023 on that list. If this list holds true, 2023 and 2024 may have up to 5 MCU films in a year in order to catch up after COVID-19.
